The Freedom of Choice and Flavor

We always treat the fruits of our own labor with special trepidation. We do so whether it’s a world record or a simple, home-made dinner prepared by hand. So why not give your child a chance to partially take care of her own diet?

A collaborative approach in the shops is a great way to play make-believe - for example that you are chefs choosing their produce for their own restaurant. Allow your child to take the process into her own hands. Which types of produce are better suited for dinner? Should we take this package, or would a blue package match better with her favorite cup? What sorts of flavors do we want for tomorrow’s dinner? A child is unlikely to later refuse a personally-chosen meal. Furthermore, you child is also taking her first steps towards independence and forming her own opinions – so necessary for every adult.

So which roles are left to parents? Of course, those of the best professional assistants in the world, who imperceptibly guide their small chefs and help them make not only the yummiest, but the healthiest choices.
